6 Plants That Contain Healing Cannabinoids

With all the fuss over this little plant one calls marijuana, scientists and researchers have started looking for other plants that may have the same effect as weed. The cannabis plant has a substance called cannabinoid. This product when entering the body generates THC. This THC is responsible for the psychoactive effects or the ‘high’.

Now several other plants have been discovered that contain cannabinoid like substances. These plants when smoked or consumed create similar effects as in case of marijuana. Some of the most common products are black pepper and chocolate.

Here is a list of 6 plants that have healing cannabinoids.

#1: Kava

This plant gained popularity due to its anti-anxiety and calming effects. The Pacific island cultures create a form of juice from the plant’s root which is then drunk. This drink has many positive relaxing effects like euphoria and bliss caused by the substance called kavalactones.

#2: Rosemary

This plant is a symbol of remembrance. This plant also has a substance called BCP which act like cannabinoids. Rosemary has been used since time immemorial for its anti-depressant and anti-anxiety properties.

#3: Japanese and New Zealand Liverwort

Discovered almost two decades ago, these two species of liverwort contain a substance called perrottetinene which is very similar to THC. This substance is said to engage the endocannabinoid system much like THC and thereby generate a drowsy yet happy high.

#4: Helichrysum umbraculigerum

This is a South African flower that contains a cannabinoid like substance called CBG. Other than being used for recreational purposes, this plant is being used today for its antibiotic, anti-depressant and chemotherapeutic properties.

#5: Maca

This plant has a substance called N-benzylamines which not only provides the necessary ‘high’, but blocks FAAH.This enhances the endocannabinoid tone, and thereby one of the best healing cannabinoids that enhance the whole system.

#6: Black Truffles

Black truffle is the black sheep of this list. It does not contain endocannabinoid receptors but they do create anandamide (AEA). This is called bliss molecule, the human version of THC. So theory suggests the mushroom generates this compound to attract animals which will in turn spread the spores.

The list is a living testimony to the fact that there are more healing cannabinoids out there. Marijuana is not the only lone survivor. Many plants exist in this world that generates the same or similar effects. This is one of the reasons why these plants are smuggled around the globe for big cash.
